The Library of the Institute of Human Resource Advancement (IHRA), University of Colombo, successfully organized a workshop on “ Ethical and Professional Use of AI” on 17 June 2026 at the IHRA Computer Laboratory.
The session was conducted by Mr. T. Ramanan, Senior Assistant Librarian of the Main Library, University of Colombo, who shared valuable insights into the effective and responsible use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools in academic environments.
The workshop focused on key areas including the utilization of AI tools in academic activities, ethical considerations in research and publications, risks associated with overdependence on AI, and practical strategies for maintaining critical thinking and academic integrity in an AI-driven environment. The interactive session enabled participants to explore both the opportunities and challenges presented by AI technologies while developing a deeper understanding of ethical and professional practices in AI usage. The workshop concluded with an engaging discussion, allowing participants to share experiences and raise questions regarding the evolving role of AI in higher education.
The certificate awarding ceremony for the participants was held with the participation of Prof DAC Suranga Silva, Director, Institute of Human Resource Advancement (IHRA), University of Colombo, who presented certificates to the participants and appreciated their active participation and commitment to enhancing their knowledge of responsible AI practices.
