QA CELL

01 Introduction
  The Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of the Institute of Human Resource Advancement (IHRA) at the University of Colombo was established on January 1, 2017, in accordance with commission circular no 04/2015. The IQAC plays a pivotal role in upholding and improving the overall quality of academic and non-academic activities within the Institute.
02 Objectives
  The primary objective of the IQAC is to cultivate a culture of continuous improvement across various facets of the Institute’s operations. This encompasses academic programs, research endeavors, administrative processes, student support services, and infrastructure development, among other areas. The IQAC aims to ensure that the Institute maintains elevated standards and strives for excellence in all its endeavors.
03 Scope of Monitoring
The IQAC consistently monitors and evaluates key areas to guarantee the Institute’s commitment to high standards. This includes regular assessments of academic programs, research activities, administrative procedures, student support services, and infrastructure development. Through this vigilant oversight, the IQAC seeks to identify areas for improvement and implement measures to enhance overall quality.
04 Collaboration with IQAC
Operating in close coordination with the Internal Quality Assurance Unit (IQAU) of the University of Colombo, the IQAC of IHRA ensures that quality enhancement efforts are seamlessly integrated throughout the institution. This collaborative approach aims to maintain a consistent and high standard of education and activities within the Institute. By aligning with the IQAU, the IQAC contributes to the overall reputation of the University, fostering excellence within the academic community and beyond.
01 Purpose
  The Quality Assurance (QA) Cell of the Institute of Human Resource Advancement, University of Colombo was established with a mandate to create a culture that seeks to continually improve the quality of all academic and other activities in the Institute.
02 Committee Composition and Meetings
   a. Membership:

  1. Director
  2. Administrative Officer of the Institute who will act as the Secretary/Convener
  3. Coordinator of the Institute QA Cell
  4. Domain Coordinators of the QA Cell
  5. Academic Staff members of the Institute

The coordinator shall be appointed by the Board of Management of the Institute.

  b. Quorum: Shall be 50% of the membership.
  c. Meetings: The Committee shall meet at least once in two months. It may also consider matters by correspondence.
  d. Terms of Office: Terms of office for appointed members of this committee will be three years.
03 Responsibilities and Duties
 
  1. To promote quality enhancement activities within the Institute.
  2. To liaise with the Internal Quality Assurance Unit (IQAU) of the University of Colombo in facilitating the conduct of Institutional Reviews and Program Reviews in the Institute.
  3. To prepare documents necessary for Institutional and Program Reviews.
  4. To facilitate the implementation of follow-up actions recommended in Institution/ Program/Subject Review reports, and monitor progress in their implementation.
  5. To liaise with Institute QA Cells in other Faculties/Institutes/Campus within the University of Colombo, to share good practices and enhance the quality of higher education in Sri Lanka.
  6. To collate and analyze Institute QA data such as student feedback forms (Teacher Evaluation, Course Evaluation, Educational Environment, and Graduate Evaluation) and peer review forms.
  7. To devise and suggest additional QA measures or changes to the existing measures, based on the data collected on various QA indicators such as peer feedback student evaluation reports, and external reviews.
04 Responsibilities and Duties of the Coordinator of the Institute QA Cell
  1. Liaise with the Director, Internal Quality Assurance Unit of the University of Colombo to coordinate university-level Quality Assurance (QA) activities.
  2. Represent the Institute in all QA-related activities.
  3. Organize Institute-level QA meetings.
  4. Provide guidance to the members and prepare the Institute Level Internal QA Report with their support.
  5. Liaise with professional quality assurance and accreditation bodies on matters pertaining to QA and accreditation, if required.
  6. Monitor the collation and analysis of Institute level internal QA data such as student feedback forms (Teacher Evaluation, Course Evaluation, Educational Environment, and Graduate Evaluation) and peer review forms.
  7. Work with other related committees and units within the institute on matters related to QA.
  8. Answer and address issues related to QA of the Institute.
  9. Report the activities of the Institute QA Cell to the Board of Management via Academic Coordinating Committee and IQAU regularly.
  10. Represent the Academic Coordinating Committee of the Institute.
  11. Propose Domain Coordinators with the approval of the Director to represent the Board of Studies and Report.
