About Us
The Japanese Unit at IHRA, University of Colombo, is dedicated to promoting cultural understanding and language proficiency through its innovative education and training programs. Our unit, under the esteemed guidance of Ms. Sakura Karunaratne, a Visiting Lecturer, and Ms. Shirani Kolambage, a Consultant Japanese Language at The University of Tokyo Sri Lanka Office, strives to provide a comprehensive learning experience.
What We Offer

๐ฏ๐ตIHRA Japanese Workshop No. 01 - 2024 "Shodo & Origami ๐๏ธ๐ด organized by the students of Japanese Language Program (CBJL/CIJL), Institute of Human Resource Advancement - University of Colombo with the guidance of Vice Chancellor University of Colombo, Senior Professor (Chair) H.D. Karunaratne Professor Sagara Chandrasekara (Director โ IHRA) and Ms. Sakura Karunaratne (External coordinator โ CBJL/CIJL). The workshop successfully concluded on 22nd March 2024 at Faculty of Graduate Studies, University of Colombo, Sri Lanka.
First of all, we would especially want to express our gratitude to Mr. Yamada Tetsuya, Chief Representative of the JICA Sri Lanka/ในใชใฉใณใซไบๅๆ for his assistance in finding such excellent resource persons. Our workshop will not be successful without his assistance.

From the captivating Inter University Japanese Speech Contest ๐ข to the tantalizing flavors of Japanese cuisine ๐ฃ, traditional music and dance performances ๐ถ, and engaging activities like the Tanabata experience ๐, Game Corner ๐ฏ for some friendly competition, and exciting giveaways ๐, attendees were treated to a feast for the senses. The event also offered hands-on experiences with Origami workshops ๐ชก, a mesmerizing Kendo demonstration ๐ฅท, and a chance for cultural exchange ๐ค. Additionally, visitors explored the Exhibition Corner ๐, delving deeper into the richness of Japanese culture. As we reflect on this unforgettable occasion, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to all who joined us in making Japanese Day 2023 a resounding success. The guest lecture on Japanese food culture โๆฅๆฌใฎ้ฃๆๅโ, organized by students of the Japanese Language Program at the Institute of Human Resource Advancement, University of Colombo successfully concluded on 18th April 2024.
We would like to thank Mr. Saman Perera and Ms. Nayana Dissanayake, owners of the Tempura Shikisen Colombo, for being such wonderful resource persons during the lecture.
