The Korean Unit at IHRA, is committed to fostering cultural appreciation and linguistic competence through its innovative educational initiatives. Led by Mr. Manjula Madhusanka, our unit strives to provide exceptional learning experiences. Under the expert guidance of Mr. Manjula Madhusanka, our courses offer a rich learning environment. Emphasizing not only language proficiency but also cultural intricacies, our curriculum ensures a comprehensive understanding of the Korean language's uniqueness. With experienced lecturers, learners embark on a journey from foundational skills to advanced language proficiency, enriching their cultural understanding along the way.

Our program offerings, such as the Certificate Course in Basic Korean Language (CBKL), Certificate Course in Intermediate Korean Language (CIKL), and Certificate Course in Advanced Korean Language (CAKL), cater to individuals eager to delve into Korean language and culture.

Beyond language instruction, the Korean Unit hosts cultural events such as the dynamic Korean Day and engaging Korean contests. These activities offer students a chance to dive into the colorful mosaic of Korean culture, nurturing a profound understanding of the language and its cultural significance. The workshop comprised two key sessions:

🔹 Introduction to Korean Opportunities – providing insights into study prospects, career pathways, and cultural exchange opportunities connected to Korea.

🔹 Korean Food Making Session – an interactive segment where participants prepared and enjoyed traditional Korean dishes, including kimbap, rice cakes (tteokbokki), and noodles.

The programme offered a meaningful and engaging experience, with students actively participating, asking insightful questions, and immersing themselves in Korean culture through hands-on activities. This workshop marked an important starting point in our journey to connect language learning with culture and global opportunities.

“Speak Korean Right, Taste Korean Bright & Glow with K-Beauty”

The Institute of Human Resource Advancement (IHRA), University of Colombo, successfully conducted Unlocking Korean Opportunities & Culture 2.0, an interactive cultural and language enrichment workshop for students of the IHRA Korean Language Programme.

The workshop provided students with a valuable opportunity to enhance their language skills while experiencing authentic aspects of Korean culture through practical engagement. Key highlights of the session included:

Practising correct Korean pronunciation with the guidance of a Korean native volunteer
Experiencing Korean cuisine through hands-on food preparation sessions (Kimbap & Ramen)
Exploring Korean beauty culture through an interactive K-Beauty session
This initiative served as a meaningful platform for students to strengthen their Korean language proficiency while gaining firsthand exposure to Korean cultural practices in an engaging and immersive environment.

On August 22, 2024, IHRA, in collaboration with the Korean Embassy, celebrated Korean culture at the Faculty of Graduate Studies Auditorium. The event featured a vibrant lineup of activities, including a Korean Historical Drama Showcase, Traditional Dance and Hanbok Fashion Shows, a Speech Contest, live K-pop performances, and exciting Cultural Experience Stations like Traditional Games and Hanji paper folding.

Guests enjoyed authentic Korean dishes like Bibimbap and Tteokbokki, creating a truly immersive cultural experience. This event strengthened Sri Lanka-Korea ties and left attendees with unforgettable memories! 🎉
