Issuing Lunch Boxes for Office Staff – 2026 “Promoting Sustainability and Environmental Responsibility”

In line with its commitment to sustainable development and environmental responsibility, the Institute of Human Resource Advancement (IHRA), University of Colombo initiated a programme to issue reusable lunch boxes to its office staff in 2026.

This initiative was undertaken with the primary objective of reducing the use of polythene within the Institute, thereby fostering a polythene-free and environmentally friendly workplace. By encouraging staff to adopt reusable alternatives, IHRA aims to promote green practices, responsible consumption, and sustainable behavioural change within the institutional environment.

The programme directly contributes to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production and SDG 13: Climate Action, by minimizing plastic waste and reducing the Institute’s environmental footprint.

The official handing-over of lunch boxes was held at the IHRA premises with the participation of Prof. Upul Sonnadara, Acting Director of IHRA, whose presence underscored the Institute’s leadership commitment to sustainability initiatives.

Through such practical and impactful actions, IHRA continues to strengthen its role in promoting sustainable institutional practices and fostering a culture of environmental stewardship in alignment with national and global sustainability agendas.
