The Institute of Human Resource Advancement (IHRA), University of Colombo, successfully inaugurated the Counselling Psychology programs – 2026 on Saturday, 10th January 2026, at the Faculty of Science Auditorium, University of Colombo, from 9.00 a.m. to 12.00 noon.
The Counselling Psychology Unit (CPU) at IHRA, University of Colombo offers the Postgraduate Diploma in Counselling Psychology (PgDCP), Higher Diploma in Counselling Psychology (HDCP), Diploma in Counselling Psychology (DCP), Diploma in Drug Abuse Management Studies (DDAMS), and the Certificate Course in Counselling Psychology (CCCP).
The ceremony commenced with the lighting of the oil lamp and the National Anthem, setting a dignified tone for the occasion. The welcome address was delivered by Mr. K. D. N. Hewage, Senior Lecturer, IHRA.
Insightful reflections on the programme were shared by former students, offering valuable perspectives on academic and professional growth. The event featured addresses by Prof. W. S. Chandrasekara, Programme Coordinator, IHRA, and an inspiring address by Prof. Samudra Senarath from Dean, Faculty of Education, University of Colombo.
The ceremony was further enriched by the address of the Chief Guest, Prof. Indika Karunathilake, Vice Chancellor of the University of Colombo, and a keynote address by Prof. Praneeth Abhayasundara of the University of Jayawardenapura, who emphasized the academic and social significance of the programme.
The event concluded with the vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Wijayantha Ukwatte, Senior Lecturer, IHRA, followed by refreshments, marking the successful commencement of the 2026 intake.
The inauguration reflected IHRA’s continued commitment to academic excellence and its vital role in addressing pressing social issues through education and professional development.
