The Institute of Human Resource Advancement (IHRA), University of Colombo, successfully inaugurated the Counselling Psychology Programme – 2026 II Intake on 18 June 2026 at the IHRA Auditorium.
The programme, conducted by the Counselling Psychology Unit (CPU), offers the Postgraduate Diploma in Counselling Psychology (PGDCP), a professionally designed programme aimed at enhancing participants’ theoretical knowledge, practical skills, and professional competencies in the field of counselling psychology.
The inauguration ceremony commenced with the traditional lighting of the oil lamp, symbolising the beginning of a new academic journey. The event was warmly welcomed by Dr. Wijayantha Ukwatte, followed by inspiring reflections shared by distinguished alumni, who highlighted the transformative learning experiences and professional growth gained through the programme.
The gathering was further enriched by addresses from Prof. Sagara Chandrasekara, Programme Coordinator, who outlined the vision and academic objectives of the programme, and Prof. DAC Suranga Silva, Director of IHRA, who encouraged the new intake to embrace the learning journey with dedication, professionalism, and a commitment to making a meaningful contribution to society through counselling and psychological support.
The ceremony marked the beginning of an exciting academic journey for the new cohort, reaffirming IHRA’s commitment to producing competent and ethical counselling professionals who are equipped to address the evolving psychological and social needs of individuals and communities.
