Entry Qualifications

  1. CERTIFICATE IN BASIC JAPANESE LANGUAGE (CBJL)

Eligibility to apply for admission as a student to the Certificate in Basic Japanese Language (CBJL) programme of the institute rests on the following condition;

She/he has passed the GCE Ordinary Level Examination

  1. CERTIFICATE IN INTERMEDIATE JAPANESE LANGUAGE (CIJL)

No person shall be eligible to be admitted to the Certificate in Intermediate Japanese Language (CIJL) programme of study leading to the Diploma in Japanese Language (DJL), unless she/he satisfies the requirements in paragraphs of (i) or (ii) or (iii):

  1. i) (a) She/he has passed the GCE (A/L) Examination in four (4) subjects prior to year 2000 in one and the same sitting. OR

(b) She/he has passed the GCE (A/L) Examination in three (3) subjects after year 2000 in one and the same sitting. AND

(c) She/he has reached the qualifying standard in academic ability and readiness as determined under section 7 of these Guidelines by the Institute at the placement test for the Diploma in Japanese Language programme. OR

(ii) She/he has passed the Certificate in Basic Japanese Language (CBJL) programme offered by the Institute. OR

(iii) She/he has passed the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT – N5) within the last two (02) years from the date of calling application.

  1. CERTIFICATE IN PRE-ADVANCED JAPANESE LANGUAGE (CPJL)

No person shall be eligible to be admitted to the Certificate in Pre-Advanced Japanese Language (CPJL) programme of study leading to the Diploma in Japanese Language (DJL), unless she/he satisfies the requirements in paragraphs of (i) or (ii) or (iii):

(i) (a) She/he has passed the GCE (A/L) Examination in four (4) subjects prior to year 2000 in one and the same sitting. OR

(b) She/he has passed the GCE (A/L) Examination in three (3) subjects after year 2000 in one and the same sitting. AND

(c) She/he has reached the qualifying standard in academic ability and readiness as determined under section 7 of these Guidelines by the Institute at the placement test for the Diploma in Japanese Language programme. OR

(ii) She/he has passed the Certificate in Intermediate Japanese Language (CIJL) programme offered by the Institute. OR

(iii) She/he has passed the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT N4) within the last two (02) years from the date of calling application.

  1. CERTIFICATE IN ADVANCED JAPANESE LANGUAGE (CAJL)

No person shall be eligible to be admitted to the Diploma in Japanese Language programme of study leading to the Diploma, unless s/he satisfies the requirements in paragraphs of (i) or (ii) or (iii) or and (iv) and (v):

(i) a. She/he has passed GCE (A/L) Examination in four (4) subjects prior to year 2000 in one and same sitting. OR

She/he has passed GCE (A/L) Examination in three (3) subjects after year 2000 in one and same sitting.OR

She/he has passed a Foundation Programme equivalent to the GCE (A/L).OR

She/he has passed GCE (O/L) Examination with accredited work experience or accredited prior learning followed by a relevant programme of study equivalent to a minimum of 30 credits.AND

She/ he has reached the qualifying standard in Academic ability and readiness as determined under section 5 (iv) of these By-laws by the Institute at the placement test for the Diploma in Japanese Language programme. OR

(ii) She/he has passed the Certificate in Pre-Advanced Japanese Language (CPJL) programme offered by the Institute OR

(iii) She/he has passed the test of Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT  N3) within the last two (02) years from the date of calling application. AND

(iv)She/he demonstrated competence in the relevant field and potential for future career development; AND

(v)  She/he has a good working knowledge of the language of instruction of the Diploma programme.

Program Schedule: We offer a comprehensive program on weekdays online lectures held from 7.00 pm to 10.00 pm.

Objectives

  1. CERTIFICATE IN BASIC JAPANESE LANGUAGE (CBJL)
  • Express basic grammatical items correctly.
  • Write Kanji in the follow of the stroke order.
  • Understand basic sentence patterns.
  • Understand the meaning of basic words in Hiragana, Katakana and Kanji.
  • Understand active listening.
  1. CERTIFICATE IN INTERMEDIATE JAPANESE LANGUAGE (CIJL)
  • Enable smooth entry to basic sentence patterns.
  • Enable to read and write Kanji and making words, sentences using Kanji.
  • Understand simple essays.
  • Develop essential spoken communication skills in Japanese
  • Succeed in sorting out specific information while listening basic conversation.
  1. CERTIFICATE IN PRE-ADVANCED JAPANESE LANGUAGE (CPJL)
  • Understand about Japanese culture and the society.
  • Improve linguistic culture.
  • Enable to make comments.
  • Enable to read Kanji in the different ways using with Onyomi and Kunyomi readings.
  • Succeed in imagining and predict while listening basic conversation.
  • CERTIFICATE IN ADVANCED JAPANESE LANGUAGE (CAJL)
  • Develop the ability to express ideas fluently and accurately.
  •   Understand and analyze complex sentence structures and advanced grammatical items.
  •   Read and interpret advanced texts, including authentic materials such as articles, reports.
  •   Use Kanji at an advanced level, including recognition of nuanced meanings and appropriate usage.
  •   Engage effectively in extended conversations and discussions on social, cultural, and professional topics.
  •   Enhance listening comprehension skills for natural, rapid, and abstract Japanese speech.
  •   Deepen understanding of Japanese culture, customs, and contemporary society.
