Overview

Professor JASK Jayakody serves as the Director, Institute of Human Resource Advancement, University of Colombo on secondment. His substantive position is an Associate Professor in Management & Organization Studies at the Department of Management & Organization Studies, Faculty of Management and Finance, University of Colombo at present.

Professor Jayakody completed B.Sc. in Management (Public) Special from University of Sri Jayewardenepura, and MBA and PhD from the Postgraduate Institute of Management of the same university. He is a Commonwealth Fellow.

He has served as the Unit Coordinator, Postgraduate & Mid-career Development Unit and the Head, Department of Management & Organization Studies, Faculty of Management and Finance, University of Colombo. In 2013 he assumed duties as the Head, PIM Research Centre, Postgraduate Institute of Management, University of Sri Jayewardenepura on sabbatical and he volunteered to serve at the same capacity in 2014.

Professor Jayakody is a member of the Council of Management, National Centre for Advanced Studies in Humanities and Social Sciences (NCAS) and Member of the Board of Study, Sri Lanka Institute of Marketing. He has served as an invited member of the Faculty Board, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, the Open University of Sri Lanka and a member of the Board of Directors, Sri Lanka Handicrafts Board (Laksala), Member of the Board of Study of Management, National Institute of Library and Information Sciences, University of Colombo.

Professor Jayakody’s research focuses on leadership and change, and exchange relationships in organizations. He has published in journals including International Journal of Human Resource Management, International Journal of Bank Marketing, Journal of Knowledge Management, Journal of Management Development, The Economic and Labour Relation Review and Management Decision. He has served and continues to serve as a member of the editorial board of Leadership, Contemporary Management Research, Sri Lankan Journal of Management and reviews for a range of journals.

He teaches leadership at master’s level and research methods for bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral students. He has supervised many dissertations at bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral levels and serves as an examiner for several doctoral theses.

In addition to being an academic, he also engages in consultancies and has provided his services to a range of public, private and not-for-profit organizations including CEAT Kelani International Tyres (Pvt) Ltd, Keels Food Products (PLC), Information & Communication Technology Agency (ICTA) Sri Lanka, Lily Hotels (Pvt.) Ltd., Republic of Maldives and Integration International Management Consultants, Germany.

Research

Professor Jayakody is currently involved in a research project which aims at exploring leadership paradoxes in Sri Lankan public sector.

Teaching

Professor Jayakody teaches leadership and research methods for Master’s and Doctoral students.
