Overview
Mr. KD Nihal Hewage is presently a Senior Lecturer of the Institute of Human Resource Advancement (IHRA), University of Colombo. He served in this capacity since September 2009.
Mr. Hewage successfully completed his B.Sc. (Hons) stream in Natural Sciences at the Open University of Sri Lanka in 1995 and he obtained his Postgraduate Diploma in Industrial Mathematics at the University of Sri Jayawardenepura in 2007. He was a scholar participated in the Erasmus Mundas Programme of the European Union and proceeded with his Postgraduate Degree studies (split) under a joint programme with Uppsala University, Sweden and University of Colombo Sri Lanka from 2010 to 2012.
He obtained his Master of Philosophy Degree “Mathematical Modeling for Prediction and Forecasting in Lightning, stream of mathematics in 2017.
He is the Secretary to the Board of Extension in IHRA from 2014. He served as a member of the Faculty Board of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities in the Rajarata University of Sri Lanka in Mihintale between 2004 and 2009 and held the post of Lecturer in Mathematics there between 2004 and 2009.He also served as a Board member of the Institute of Indigenous Medicine from 2005 to 2007. He also contributed as a Day School Lecturer, Lesson Writer and Lesson Translator attached to the Department of Mathematics in the Faculty of Engineering at the Open University of Sri Lanka from 1998 to 2004.Apart from that he was a Demonstrator in the Computer Laboratory from 1996 up to 1998.
Research
Mr. Hewage was completed in his Postgraduate degree in “Mathematical Modeling for Forecasting and Prediction of Lightning” under the guidance of the University of Upsala, Sweden and the University of Colombo, Sri Lanka.
Teaching
Mr. Hewage possesses considerable experience in teaching Mathematics, Statistics, and IT for undergraduates in several National Universities in Sri Lanka in addition to IHRA.
Contribution outside the University System
Apart from his active functioning as the Secretary General of the JR Jayawardene Centre from May, 2012 held the position of Chairman, Institute of Shipping and Aviation Information Research Institute (SAIRI) commencing from 2006 up to 2012. He was a member of the Board of Directors of the Institute of Information Communication Technology Agency of Sri Lanka (ICTA) between 2004 and 2006. Jayawardene Centre is established under the Parliamentary Act No. 77 of 1988 attach to the Presidential Secretariat.
