Diploma in Drugs Abuse Management Studies (DDAMS)

The Institute of Human Resource Advancement (IHRA) at the University of Colombo offers a specialized Diploma in Drugs Abuse Management Studies. This comprehensive program equips students with the knowledge and practical skills necessary to address the complexities of drug abuse. Through a multidisciplinary approach and hands-on learning opportunities, students gain expertise in areas such as addiction psychology, counseling, policy development, and community outreach. Graduates are well-prepared for various roles in the field and can make a positive impact on individuals and communities affected by drug abuse.

Objectives

This program has been designed by IHRA, University of Colombo to transfer up-to-date knowledge and techniques to improve the skills and capacities for alcohol and drug prevention, management, rehabilitation, and treatments by mixing theoretical knowledge with practical skills.

  1. Holistic Understanding: Provide a comprehensive understanding of substance abuse, covering physiological, psychological, and social aspects.
  2. Evidence-Based Practices: Introduce evidence-based approaches for effective substance abuse prevention, management, rehabilitation, and treatment.
  3. Prevention and Intervention: Equip participants with skills to design and implement community-level prevention strategies and interventions.
  4. Rehabilitation Techniques: Explore rehabilitation strategies and multidisciplinary approaches for successful reintegration into society.
  5. Counseling Skills: Develop effective counseling skills, including communication techniques and motivational interviewing.

Program Duration: 12 Months

Program Medium: Sinhala

Program Schedule: We offer a comprehensive program with weekdays and weekends, combining online and physical lectures, and theory sessions held from 8.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m.

Target Group

The Diploma in Drug Abuse Management Studies (DDAMS) program is targeted towards healthcare professionals, social workers, rehabilitation center staff, law enforcement personnel, educators, community health workers, parents, addiction recovery advocates, human resource professionals, as well as students and graduates aspiring to specialize in substance abuse prevention and management.

This program equips individuals with the knowledge and skills needed to address drug abuse issues across a range of professional settings, from clinical environments to community outreach and education.

Entry Qualifications

1.To be eligible for enrollment, applicants must meet the following criteria:

(a) Has Passed GCE (A/L) Examination in four (4) subjects under the old syllabus. Or,
(b) Has Passed GCE (A/L) Examination in Three (3) subjects under the new syllabus.
(c) Has Passed a Foundation Program equivalent to the GCE (A/L).
(d) Has Passed GCE (O/L) Examination with accredited work Experience or accredited prior learning followed by a relevant program of study equivalent to a minimum of 30 credits.

2.Has Demonstrated Competence in the Relevant Field and Potential for future career Development,
AND
3.Has a good working knowledge of the language of instruction of the Diploma Program.

Meeting these eligibility requirements ensures that candidates have the necessary academic background, competence, and language skills to successfully participate in the Diploma in Drugs Abuse Management Studies.
